I broke my tibia and destroyed the entire tibia surface in an accidental fall on a horse 2 1/2 years ago.
Despite a year and a half of rehabilitation, I was never able to walk like before. I limped on one leg and had daily pain in my knee.
A colleague suggested Pilates. This is where I started just over a year ago - and to be honest, without much expectation that it would do anything for my knee.
But it could! After one-on-one classes where exercises were “customised” for my bad leg, I have participated on an equal footing with others in the regular classes. And when needed, the exercises that caused problems were adapted to me. Today I'm walking completely normally again. The pain is gone and I can walk on high heels again!.
The great thing about Pilates is that it can be customised and tailored to individual needs and problems. Through Pilates and of course thanks to the great instructors at Pilates Cph, I have built and learnt to use muscles that prevent me from straining my knee.
And as a side benefit, I sit much better on horseback and no longer suffer from back pain when I ride a lot. Core stability is a good thing for horses too.
