I've been lucky enough to be able to do Pilates for five months of my maternity leave and it's been a great investment for my body.
I teach gymnastics, practise high-level yoga, have an ambitious handstand practice and am a bodybuilder.
After only one month of Pilates training, I could already feel a difference in my body and training. Especially my yoga and handstand training. I've always struggled to find and capture my abs and utilise them fully, but that has changed. For the past five months I've been able to challenge myself with yoga and handstand training, which is what I find fun and important in my physical development and mobility.
Bodybuilding has also made it easier for me to get a good posture and remember to use all my muscles so the exercises feel even better. I have been trained by a personal trainer in bodybuilding and have always been made aware of how important this is to avoid injury and hit the muscles you want to hit.
With all this physical exercise comes a long-term holistic interest. This is where Pilates comes into play, I think. For me, it's ultimately about having a body that lasts for a long time. I don't want to wear out my body, but maintain it so that it's not only comfortable to live in now, but also in the future. This is an important investment in my opinion.
One last thing I have to mention is that the teaching you get in Pilates Cph is quite unique. You are in smaller classes and you are seen and corrected so that the technique is in order, even if you are pregnant, post-pregnancy or if you have an injury that needs to be taken into account. So it's definitely not the last time I've taken Pilates classes at Pilates Cph.
